# Zylo MCP - Setup for ChatGPT

> **Note**: Support for MCP servers is currently a ChatGPT beta feature, and may require ChatGPT Plus or Enterprise. Check with OpenAI for current availability.

Before starting, ensure you meet all general prerequisites defined in the [Getting Started guide](/reference/getting-started-mcp), including choosing an authentication method.

# Step 1: Open ChatGPT Settings

1. Open ChatGPT
2. Click on your profile icon
3. Select `Settings`
4. Select the `Advanced` or `Integrations` tab

# Step 2: Add Zylo MCP Server

1. Click `Add MCP Server` or `Add Integration`
2. Enter the following information:
   * Name: `Zylo`
   * Server URL: `https://api.zylo.com/mcp`
   * Authentication: Choose either `OAuth` or `Bearer Token` (API key). Consult your Zylo admin to determine which option is right for your use case, and see the "Choose an authentication method" section in [Getting Started](/reference/getting-started-mcp).

#### Option A: OAuth 2.0 with PKCE

* Type: `OAuth`
* ChatGPT will open a browser window for you to sign in to Zylo
* No API key needed — uses your existing Zylo credentials

#### Option B: API Key

* Type: `Bearer Token`
* Token: Paste your full API key in the format `token_id:token_secret`

3. Click `Save` or `Connect`

# What You Can Do

Once connected, you can ask ChatGPT to:

### Analyze Your Data

* "Show me all applications spending over $50,000 annually"
* "Which contracts are expiring in the next 90 days?"
* "What's our total SaaS spend by department?"

### Manage Your Portfolio

* "Create a 2025 budget of $150,000 for Salesforce"
* "Update the contract end date for DocuSign to December 31, 2025"
* "Mark the Slack application as inactive"

### Get Insights

* "What applications have the highest cost per user?"
* "Show me unused or underutilized licenses"
* "Generate a renewal forecast for Q1 2025"

# Troubleshooting

### "Unable to connect"

Check these items:

* Verify you pasted the full API key (should be very long, \~100+ characters)
* Ensure there are no extra spaces or line breaks in the API key
* Confirm the server URL is exactly: `https://api.zylo.com/mcp`
* Check that your API key hasn't been revoked in Zylo

To test your API key:

1. Go to Zylo Admin Panel → Company Tokens
2. Find your token
3. Verify it shows as "Active"
4. Check the permissions assigned

### "Permission denied"

Your API key doesn't have permission for the requested action.

Solution:

1. While logged into a Zylo admin account, navigate to Zylo Admin Panel → Company Tokens
2. Find the relevant token and click `Edit`
3. Add required permissions. To see a full list of permissions and their descriptions, see [Permissions](/reference/permissions/)
4. Click `Save`
5. Try your request again (no need to reconfigure Claude)

### ChatGPT doesn't respond or times out

Complex queries may need simplification:

* Add more specific filters (date ranges, status, etc.)
* Reduce the number of fields requested
* Query smaller date ranges
